(Greensburg, IN) – Street Commissioner Mark Klosterkemper gave an update to Greensburg City Council and the Board of Works Tuesday evening on the unofficial detour onto U.S. 421 that stems from INDOT’s I-74 rehabilitation project in Decatur County.
Klosterkemper says INDOT has gathered data on the number of drivers who use 421 between St. Paul and State Road 3 to get around the work, which has snarled traffic on the interstate.
Jurisdiction along the affected stretch of U.S. 421 is divided between the State of Indiana, Decatur County and the City of Greensburg.
Klosterkemper says a request for post-project repairs was originally turned down by INDOT Southeast in Seymour, but he and Decatur County leaders huddled in Indianapolis with state transportation officials, who agreed to fix any problems when the project wraps up.
That’s expected sometime in 2028.
