(Dearborn County, IN) – A powerful storm swept across Dearborn County Tuesday afternoon, causing widespread damage to trees, utility lines and some structures.
The storm entered northern Dearborn County around 3 p.m. Tuesday before moving southeast across the county, according to Dearborn County officials.
Emergency responders were working Tuesday evening to make sure residents were safe and accounted for while crews secured damaged roads and utilities.
No injuries or deaths had been reported as of Tuesday evening.
Officials said nearly the entire county sustained some type of storm damage, and cleanup is expected to be extensive.
Utility crews are working to restore electricity in affected areas.
Motorists are being urged to use extreme caution. Tree limbs, leaves and other debris may be covering roads and could make pavement slick. Drivers should not go around barricades.
Residents whose homes or other structures were damaged are asked to report the damage to Dearborn County Emergency Management by calling (812) 537-3971 and selecting option 2. Residents should leave a message if no one answers.
Damage reports may also be emailed to EMA@dearborncounty.in.gov.
Residents with structural damage to their homes who need assistance from the American Red Cross may also contact the county emergency management office, which can help arrange assistance.
Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 911.
Dearborn County officials said additional information will be released as warranted.
