(Batesville, IN) – A draft ordinance regulating downtown parking died for lack of a motion at Monday night’s Batesville city council meeting.
Council had been considering a two-hour limit for the entire downtown for the past few months. But after public comments, community input and further inquiries of downtown stakeholders by councilmembers, the ordinance as drafted and presented last month is dead, but another version could be up for consideration in the future.
Council plans to continue gathering information and evaluating potential parking regulations that are more fitting to specific parts of the downtown district.
First reading of the proposed ordinance took place in July. A number of people were at last month’s meeting to voice concerns about the proposal, which called for parking limited to two hours from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Companion proposals to amend parking schedules and the placement of required signage also died.
