Paul Anthony Hountz, 68, of Sunman, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Paul was a devoted husband, wonderful father, proud papa, and loving brother. He spent his life dedicated to his family, his community, and helping others. For 38 wonderful years, he was married to the love of his life and best friend, Marilyn Hountz. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured memories.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Hountz; his children, Zach Hountz and Jenna Hountz; and his grandchildren, Zane Hountz and Isaiah Hountz, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Karen) Hountz, Joe (Annette) Hountz, Betty (George) Hoff, Leroy (Kim) Hountz, Dorita Hodges and brothers-in-law Albert Kraus Jr. and Dan Doll; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Viola Hountz, and his sisters, Joyce Kraus and Mary Lou Doll.
Paul never met a stranger. Known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand, he touched the lives of everyone he met. He was deeply involved in his community and always found time to support those around him.
In his spare time, Paul loved playing Solo and horseshoes with friends, activities that brought him great joy week after week. He looked forward to his annual fishing trips and cherished every opportunity to be with family and friends. A passionate sports enthusiast, Paul enjoyed football, softball, and basketball and could always be found cheering on his favorite teams.
Throughout his life, Paul worked in carpentry and the food industry, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike through his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and dedication. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he gave freely of his time as a volunteer, helping make his community a better place.
Paul will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. He filled the lives of those around him with laughter, wisdom, and compassion. Although he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Sunman American Legion Post 337, 412 Eastern Avenue, Sunman, Indiana 47041. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. prior to visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Father Shaun Whittington presiding. Burial will follow immediately after in the church cemetery. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be held immediately after the burial at the Sunman American Legion Post 337.
