(Decatur County, IN) – The Decatur County Democratic Central Committee says it wants greater transparency when it comes to data center discussions in the Greensburg area.
Party leaders say recent discussions have generated significant public interest but have left many residents with more questions than answers.
They also say decisions that could shape Decatur County for decades should be openly communicated and not through vague comments or references to ordinances and resolutions many residents don’t understand.
Supporters of data centers say they provide essential digital infrastructure, create jobs and tax revenue, and they are viewed as vital to American competitiveness.
Democratic Party leadership is asking City of Greensburg officials to clarify the status of the data center project that has recently been discussed, explain its anticipated impact on the community, and outline the process.
In addition, party leaders say they encourage Decatur County officials to adopt a moratorium on data center construction in unincorporated areas of the county while the Comprehensive Plan is being updated to allow a careful evaluation of the potential impacts on infrastructure, utilities, land use, public services and long term growth before additional projects are considered.
“This is not a call to oppose economic development. It is a call for thoughtful planning and transparent government. Communities across Indiana are taking time to evaluate data center development before moving forward, and Decatur County should do the same,” Decatur County Democratic Central Committee members wrote in a statement. “The people of Decatur County deserve clear information, meaningful public input, and decisions that reflect the long-term interests of our community.”
