United Fund Seeks Caring Crews

Decatur County organizations have projects that need doing. The United Fund is looking for volunteers and local businesses ready to lend a hand.

(Greensburg, IN) – A fresh coat of paint. A cleaned-up landscape. A building project that has waited too long for enough helping hands.

The Decatur County United Fund is preparing for its annual Day of Caring, an event that matches teams of community volunteers with nonprofit organizations needing help completing projects.

This year’s event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16. The United Fund is now accepting project applications from qualifying nonprofits and participation applications from businesses interested in supplying volunteer teams.

Any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization may apply for assistance with a project. Past assignments have included painting, landscaping, general cleaning and even printing T-shirts and hats.

The nonprofit is responsible for providing the supplies and materials. Day of Caring volunteers provide the labor needed to get the job done.

Volunteers completed 22 projects last year

The volunteers come from local businesses, schools and the community. Participating employers allow teams of workers time away from their regular duties to complete their assigned projects.

In 2025, approximately 128 volunteers completed 22 projects at locations throughout Decatur County.

Companies must also submit an application before being matched with a project. The United Fund works with participating organizations and volunteer teams to find suitable assignments.

Day of Caring gives nonprofit organizations access to labor they may not otherwise have, while volunteers get a closer look at the agencies and services operating in their community.
