Body Recovered from SE Indiana Pond

(Switzerland County, IN) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an incident that claimed the life of a Louisville man on Saturday in Switzerland County.

Conservation officers responded around 11:22 a.m. to a private pond at a rural Rising Sun address after receiving a report of tire tracks leading into the water.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived and began search operations for a vehicle.

Using sonar technology, conservation officers located the vehicle submerged in around 10 feet of water.

Near the vehicle, the body of 48-year-old Michael Downey, 48 of Louisville was recovered.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of death to be drowning.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office, East Enterprise Fire Department, Switzerland County Emergency Response, and the Switzerland County Coroner’s Office.
