The Cincinnati Reds doubled up the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 in the series opener at Busch Stadium in a game heard last night on WRBI. Eugenio Suarez clubbed a two-run homer in the 7th inning that turned a one-run deficit into a 3-2 lead. The Reds added an insurance run in the 9th to round out the scoring. Rhett Lowder pitched brilliantly but did not figure into the decision. He gave up just one hit, two earned runs and two walks while striking out four over five innings. Thirty-one-year-old rookie Julian Garcia notched his first Major League win, and Emilio Pagan pitched a perfect 9th for his 10th save of the year. The Reds go for the series win tonight when they send Hunter Greene (2-1, 6.06 ERA) to the mound. Andre Pallante (10-6, 4.02 ERA) goes for St. Louis. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 103.9 FM.
The Reds have placed infielder Matt McLain on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville. He’s been on the Injured List since July 10 with a left calf strain.

Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon will present former kicker Adam Vinatieri when he’s inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Aug. 8. Vinatieri earned his spot in the Hall in his second year of eligibility after a 24-season NFL career. He retired as the league’s all-time leading scorer and spent 14 seasons with the Colts, helping Indianapolis win Super Bowl XLI.
The NASCAR Cup Series is at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for tomorrow’s running of the Brickyard 400. Bubba Wallace is the defending champ. Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin will serve as the honorary pace car driver. Coverage on 103.9 FM begins at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.
