The Cincinnati Reds came from behind to beat the Mariners 5-3 in Seattle to take the series yesterday in a game heard on WRBI. The Reds were trailing 3-2 when Sal Stewart clubbed his 21st home run of the season, a three-run bomb in the top of the 7th inning, to give the Reds the lead for good. Brady Singer got the win to improve to 5-9. He gave up three earned runs, six hits and one walk while striking out six over 6 2/3 innings. Emilio Pagan came on in the 9th and nailed down his ninth save. The Reds have an off day before starting a three-game series tomorrow night in St. Louis against the Cardinals.
The All-Star trio of Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston combined for 72 points in the Indiana Fever’s 123-88 rout of the Connecticut Sun in WNBA action last night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The 123 points scored is a new franchise record. Clark led all scorers with 27 points and had 11 assists; Mitchell added 16, and Boston contributed 13 in the Fever’s final game before the All-Star break. Indiana (17-10) will be back in action next Tuesday night in Seattle.
James Brooks and Bob Trumpy have been named to the Cincinnati Bengals Ring of Honor. Brooks played for the team from 1984 to 1991 and was four-time Pro Bowler at halfback. He was a member of the team that played in Super Bowl XXII. Trumpy was one of the original Bengals in 1968 and was named to four Pro Bowls as a tight end. He played for the team his entire career, and retired after the 1977 season. Trumpy died last November at the age of 80. Brooks and Trumpy will be inducted when the Bengals host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, November 1.
