Sidney “Jim” James Lane, passed away on July 18, 2026 at the age of 81. His death follows complications from a massive stroke he suffered on June 27, 2026.
Jim was born on October 13, 1944 in Hooven, Ohio to the late L.D and Mary Julia Lane. He grew up in Blue Jay, Ohio, surrounded by family and remained deeply connected to his roots throughout his life.
Jim spent the majority of his life living and working in Harrison, Ohio- a community he loved with all his heart. He was a true entrepreneur, whose determination led him to own and operate several businesses throughout his lifetime. His ventures included local restaurants, a floor covering retail and installation business, Lane Enterprises & Homes, and Banner’s on the Avenue, each leaving its own mark on the community he served.
Even in retirement, Jim wasn’t one to sit still. He found purpose and fulfillment in working for the City of Harrison for many years and helping with weekend food preparation at The Market Street Grille. He enjoyed staying busy, lending a helping hand, and visiting with the many people whose live he touched over the years.
While Jim will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, those who knew him best will remember his generous heart. He was always willing to help someone in need, often without being asked and never expecting anything in return. His greatest example of love was the devoted care he provided to his wife, Sandra, as well as the compassion he extended to neighbors, friends, and members of his community whenever they needed him. He traveled to SC for many years to help his Aunt Karla rebuild her community after Hurricane Hugo. Over the years, there were many gutters cleaned, grab bars and railings installed, wheelchair ramps built, presents delivered, catering of celebrations, and so many other numerous quiet acts of kindness and service.
He was deeply connected to the Harrison’s Mayor’s Community Fund. For many years he chaired the golf outing and collected sponsorships. Jim also packed holiday meal and gifts- always filling in the gaps. The American Federation of Riders also enjoyed his volunteer efforts during their community toy drive. If he showed up at your business asking for your support, he was sure to leave with something.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra (nee Cecil) Lane, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership. He was a proud father of Louie Dick Lane (Kristen) and Joan Lane-Isbell (Brian). His greatest joy was his family, and he treasured his grandchildren, Stephanie Ruble (Andrew), Karen Lane, Louie Lane (Andrea), and Nash Isbell. He was also blessed to become a great-grandfather to Adler and Quincy Ruble and Elsie Lane.
He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Jerd (Frank) and Julia Biddle (Dick); his brother, Terry Lane; brother-in-law, Gary Cecil (Jenny); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Smith; his beloved aunt, Sister Karla Barker, O.S.F.; sister-in law: Gloria (nee Cecil) Rasch, and his in-laws, Sam and Mary Cecil.
Per Jim’s wishes, services will not be observed.
