Gary Wayne Richmond, age 74 of Brookville

Gary Wayne Richmond, 74, of Brookville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Affectionately known to many as Hoghead, Gary was born on July 1, 1952, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, to William “Buster” and Beulah Richmond (née Buckner). He graduated from Brookville High School with the Class of 1971. Following graduation, Gary enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Proteus (AS-19). Throughout his life, Gary worked for several companies, in a variety of roles, including the Brookville Street Department, Fraley and Schilling, and McCreary Block & Company. He was a proud and active member of the Brookville American Legion Bernard Hurst Post #77, the Brookville F.O.E. #1129, and the Connersville F.O.E. # 1065.

Gary married Tamela Greene on March 24, 1998. They enjoyed 28 years of love, laughter, and unwavering companionship before her passing earlier this year.

As an avid card player, he was a familiar face and beloved fixture at The Eagles, where he spent several nights a week playing Texas Hold ‘em with a dedicated group of friends. Whether he was playing cards, shooting pool, or by the water camping and fishing, he always knew how to enjoy the moment. In his younger years, Gary played multiple sports and remained a lifelong fan of college basketball—especially UK—as well as the NFL, NASCAR, and the Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed taking a drive with some classic country music or Elvis playing through the car stereo. While he enjoyed all of the above, Gary loved his children and family more than anything.

Gary was a true people person. Easygoing by nature, he never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a friend. He was deeply loved by his many friends and fellow members of the organizations he belonged to, who considered him family.

He leaves behind his daughters, Kimberly “Kimmy” (Kevin) Claypool and Lauren (Mark) Prifogle; nine grandchildren, Tyler (Caitlynn) Merrell, Mallorie (John) Sittason, Carrighan (Jordan) Blevins; Finley, Jude, Davis, and Lydia Prifogle; Sydney and Wyatt Claypool; seven great-grandchildren, Mia, Sophia, Harper, Colton, Cade, Lily, and Lucy; three siblings, Ken (Jacqueline) Richmond, Patti Blackmon, and Marie (Jerry) Grimes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Tammy, Gary was preceded in death by his grandson, Hunter Ray Hubbard; and eight siblings, Clifford, Bill, Coy, Jackie, Sue, Bobby, Darlene, and Brenda Lee.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home of Brookville, 929 Main Street. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. Burial will follow at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery. Following funeral services, a time of fellowship and a meal will be held at the Brookville American Legion Bernard Hurst Post #77.
