(Shelby/Decatur Counties, IN) – A high-speed police chase through Shelby and Decatur counties on Wednesday resulted in multiple crashes and injuries, plus several arrests after suspect vehicles were clocked at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
Shelbyville Police say it all began with a shoplifting incident at the Edinburgh Outlet Mall, in which a mall employee was struck by a fleeing vehicle.
A Shelbyville officer began pursuing two recklessly driven cars on State Road 44.
During the chase, a police cruiser was struck, leaving an officer and another driver with minor injuries.
Shortly afterward, one suspect vehicle hit two cars and a semi on State Road 44, injuring three people.
The second suspect car fled into Decatur County before crashing near Greensburg on I-74, where deputies took the occupants into custody.
The Shelbyville Police Department is leading the investigation, and says the names of those involved are not being released right now.
