Hilda Brashear, age 97 of Sunman

Hilda Faye Brashear, of Sunman, was born on April 16, 1929, in Amburgey, Kentucky. She was the cherished daughter of Joe and Dallie Wells (née Franklin). On October 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to the late Omar Brashear, and together they raised four beloved children.

Hilda was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Sunman for many years. She was employed at Seagram’s Distillery, where she worked on the bottling line affixing labels. In her spare time, Hilda enjoyed preparing wonderful homemade meals for her family and friends. She found her greatest peace on her front porch, relaxing in her porch swing and simply basking in the warmth of the sun. She would lean her head back, letting the sunshine beam down on her face, and every now and then, she might even drift off into a peaceful nap. As long as she was in the sunshine, Hilda was happy. Her greatest joy of all, however, was spending time with her family and friends. Those who knew her best will remember her sassy spirit and warm smile, and they will miss them dearly.

On Saturday, July 11, at the age of 97, Hilda passed away peacefully at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.

Those surviving who will carry Hilda’s legacy forward include her daughters, Patricia Hollingsworth and Peggy (Don) Norman of Sunman; daughters-in-law, Rita Brashear of Harrison, Ohio and Vicky Brashear of Okeechobee, Florida; ten grandchildren twenty-seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild on the way; as well as one sister, Mary Jo Disney of Sunman.
