Pursuit Suspect Arrested in Ripley Co

(Ripley County, IN) – A two-county pursuit on Saturday morning ended in Ripley County with an arrest.

Ripley County Dispatch was notified around 10:42 a.m. that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was pursuing a vehicle that had entered Ripley County.

Deputies with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office assisted Jefferson County by positioning along U.S. 421 near Correct.

One of the Ripley County deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device, which disabled the suspect’s SUV, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

The driver, later identified as 40-year-old Parish Elijah Isaiah Washington Collier Murphy of Cincinnati, turned onto County Road 550 South after striking the tire deflation device.

He eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed near the intersection of 550 South and County Road 350 West.

Deputies say Murphy then fled on foot into a nearby field and headed toward County Road 400 West.

A K-9 team from the Madison Police Department that was involved in the chase eventually located Murphy, who surrendered without further incident.

Deputies say the investigation determined that Murphy was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Ohio.

Authorities also allegedly found a suspected controlled substance during the incident.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and will determine what charges will be filed.
