George Raymond Dever, age 87, of Sunman, Indiana, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. Born on November 4, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, he was the son of Darrell and Willa (Graham) Dever.
George graduated from high school in Oxnard, California, in 1956. On January 6, 1957, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he married the love of his life, Joanne Dever. They shared 62 years of marriage until her passing in 2019. George worked as a skilled carpenter building a life through hard work and dedication. He found simple joy in woodworking and keeping his lawn neatly mowed—activities that reflected his hands-on nature and love for creating and caring for things around him.
He is survived by his sons, D. George Dever of Sunman and Douglas (Melinda) Dever of Brookville; his daughter, Patricia Hinton of Orange Park, Florida; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife Joanne, George was preceded in death by his son, John Dever; his brothers: Edward, Darrell and James Dever; and his sister, Carol Dever.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM at New Testament Baptist Church in Penntown, with Pastor Derrick Caudle officiating.
