Deputies Deal with Multiple I-74 Wrecks

(Decatur County, IN) – Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies were kept busy Sunday evening with three separate wrecks in construction zones along I-74.

The first happened around 5:09 p.m. in the eastbound lanes at the 125-mile marker in which a vehicle hit the back of another.

There were no injuries reported.

The second crash took place around 5:20 p.m. on eastbound 74 at the 123-mile marker and involved three vehicles.

There were injuries reported from that one; the victims were taken to the Decatur County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and to Major Hospital in Shelbyville with non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 6:15 pm, a semi and another vehicle collided on westbound I-74 at the 125-mile marker.

No one was hurt in that crash.

Eastbound 74 was shut down for around two hours and 20 minutes, while the westbound lane stayed open but traffic was drastically slowed down.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says you should avoid distractions while driving, and watch your speed in work zones, for the safety of motorists and especially for construction workers.

Deputies received assistance from Decatur County EMS; Decatur County Communications; the Adams and St. Paul volunteer fire departments; Shelby County Fire/EMS; Indiana Department of Natural Resources; TDS Wrecker Service; Platinum Wrecker Service, and Tim’s Wrecker Service.
