Dan Murtaugh

Daniel Murtaugh, 70, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. A lifelong resident of New Alsace, he attended St. Paul School and North Dearborn High School.

Always a hard worker, Dan’s career included employment at Schenley Distillery and Batesville Casket, where he worked until retirement. In his free time, Dan enjoyed collecting and listening to vinyl records, especially music from the ’60s and ’70s. He found creative satisfaction in woodworking and would use anything from a chainsaw to a scroll saw to make American flags, eagles, alligators, and everything in between. He also enjoyed working outside, taking particular pride in caring for his trees. Whether tending to the outdoors, woodworking, or enjoying a favorite record, Dan appreciated the simple joys of life.

Dan will be deeply missed by Kathy, his wife of 43 years; their three daughters, Rachel Murtaugh, Laura (Bryan) Stewart, and Sarah Murtaugh; grandsons Cooper & Caleb Stewart; sisters, Carol (Ray) Henshaw & Sandy Schoettelkotte; and brother-in-law, Harry Hartman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Marie Murtaugh; sister, Jo Ann Hartman; and brother-in-law, Jim Schoettelkotte.

A private family service will be held to honor the life of Dan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sunman Area Life Squad can be mailed to the funeral home or a donation can be given directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation at https://www.michaeljfox.org or to a charity close to your heart. Family and friends are encouraged to leave condolences at www.andres-wuestefeldfh.com.
