Rev. Richard “Rick” Dewayne Daugherty

Rev. Richard “Rick” Dewayne Daugherty, age 63, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on November 9, 1962 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Rick was the loving son of Rev. Lloyd Wayne Daugherty and the late, Janet Carol (Mockbee) Daugherty. In 1972, Rick’s family moved to Vevay, Indiana where he grew up and developed a passion for athletics. He excelled in track, golf, baseball, and basketball and was selected to play on the 40-8 All-Star Basketball Team during his senior year of high school. Rick graduated as Valedictorian from Switzerland County High School with the class of 1981. Following high school, Rick attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University in 1985. Answering a calling to ministry, Rick received his ministerial license through the Christian Leadership Institute in Franklin, Indiana, and was later ordained, dedicating his life to serving the Lord and others at Franklin College. Rick was united in marriage to Debra D. Thomas on September 12, 1987 in Vevay, Indiana. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Laci and Zack, who were among his greatest joys in life. Rick was a former member of the Switzerland Baptist Church and Spring Branch Baptist Church. He also served as Assistant Pastor of Fredonia Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, where he ministered alongside his father. Through his preaching, leadership, and compassionate spirit, Rick touched countless lives and shared the Gospel with many throughout the years. Rick was a former manager for Pizza Hut in Seymour, Indiana for a few years. He was later employed for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky, for several years, where he was a research and development analyst and was awarded for several patents. Rick was deeply committed to his community and was a member of the Switzerland County Lions Club and the Long Run Association of American Baptist Churches. He devoted much of his time to mentoring and encouraging young people through athletics. During his children’s youth, he coached Little League baseball at Markland Dam for many years. Rick was instrumental in establishing the girls’ golf program at Switzerland County High School and also served as an assistant high school basketball coach. Rick had a lifelong love for sports, especially golf. Whether on the golf course, cheering on his favorite teams, enjoying television, or browsing for treasures while shopping online, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Above all, Rick cherished his faith, his family, and the opportunity to serve others. Rick went to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:14 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Norton Clark Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Rick is survived by his daughter, Laci Daugherty of Vevay, IN; his son, Zack Daugherty of Vevay, IN; his father and step-mother, Rev. Lloyd Wayne Daugherty and his wife, Lynne of Vevay, IN; his brother, Rob Daugherty and his wife, Kathy of Vevay, IN; his nieces, Natalie Wheeler and her husband, Josh of Vevay, IN, and Jenna Kaylor and her husband, Jason of Greenwood, IN; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Addison, Jackson, Bryce, and Everly; his aunts and uncle, Betty Lou Mericle of Aurora, IN, and Patricia Ann and Robert Yelton of Orlando, FL and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Carol (Mockbee) Daugherty, died July 5, 2023; his maternal-grandfather, Marion O. Mockbee, died January 12, 1946; his maternal-grandmother, Florence Elizabeth (Ampt) Mockbee Mangold, died September 11, 1992; his maternal-step-grandfather, Delmar M. Mangold, died February 19, 2001; his paternal-grandfather, Robert Lloyd Daugherty, died February 15, 1994, and his paternal-grandmother, Alta Ruth “Boots” (Baker) Daugherty, died June 6, 1983.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Switzerland Baptist Church, 307 Main Cross Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Switzerland Baptist Church, 307 Main Cross Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
