Roger ‘Idy’ Allen Gunter, age 65, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026 in a place he loved and called home surrounded by his family.
Born on April 15, 1961 in Batesville to the late Dale and Eileen (Hornberger) Gunter. Roger married Connie Krieg on December 3, 1983 and together they filled their home with faith, love and laughter. They were blessed with three children, Shannon, Jenna and Erik.
Roger spent over 45 years working side by side with his family in excavation, a career he truly loved and enjoyed.
Roger was a simple man who found joy in hard work, family and the small things in life. He shared a special bond with his son, Erik. They enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking slow drives down the backroads. Roger was known for turning everyday moments into something worth laughing about with his pranks and quick wit. Roger was a selfless man who put others first and always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to Connie, his loving wife of more than 42 years, he is survived by his children, Shannon (Joe) Loichinger of Guilford, Jenna (Andrew) Mills of Milan, and Erik Gunter of Batesville; grandchildren, Graham, Noah and Caleb Loichinger plus Carter, Austin and Tate Mills; mother, Eileen Gunter; siblings, Gary (Diane) Gunter, Diane (Tim) Moore; David (Stephanie) Gunter along with many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Dale Gunter and grandson, Ollie Loichinger.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral Services will be 11:00am on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Adams Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Booster officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the family to assist with final expenses by bringing to the services, or mailed to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
