Batesville captured its third straight EIAC golf title yesterday at The Links at Rising Sun. The Bulldogs as a team shot a 300. East Central was runner up at 303. Franklin County and Greensburg finished at 333 along with Lawrenceburg. Batesville junior Ian Hixson claimed MVP honors with a 3-under-par 68.

The Milan 1954 Museum will hold a 40th anniversary celebration of the motion picture “Hoosiers” on Saturday, November 7 in the Milan HS gym. It will feature a one-hour program and screening of the movie. Those who buy tickets before July 15 will be entered to win a ball signed by several members of the Milan 1954 state basketball championship team.

The Kansas Royals beat the Reds 5-2 in the rubber game of their series in downtown Cincinnati as heard last night on WRBI. Kansas City led 2-0 until Blake Dunn’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th inning tied the game. The Royals scored three times off Tony Santillan, who took the loss and falls to 1-3. Chase Burns had an another outstanding start. He went six innings, gave up two earned runs on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. The Reds are off today before starting a six-game road trip with the first of three tomorrow night in St. Louis against the Cardinals.

The Reds on Wednesday optioned struggling outfielder TJ Friedl to Triple-A Louisville and recalled Noelvi Marte. Friedl hit .179 with two home runs in 47 games for Cincinnati. Marte was the Reds starting right fielder to open the season, but struggled at the plate and was optioned to Louisville in April. He hit .369 with eight homers and 27 RBIs in 40 games with the Bats.

Reds’ outfielder JJ Bleday is the National League Player of the Month for May. Bleday hit .301 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs last month. He’s the Reds’ first player of the month since Joey Votto in July 2021.

The Indiana Fever start WNBA Commissioners Cup play tonight at home against the Atlanta Dream. Tipoff in downtown Indy is at 7 p.m.
