In Class 3A baseball sectional semifinal action at Batesville heard last night on the Sports Voice, the host Bulldogs doubled up South Dearborn 4-2 in the opener. Brayden Maple smacked a 3-run homer and Dane Dudley went 3 for 3 with a solo homer. William Huber got the win. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up 7 hits and an earned run, and struck out 8. Ronan Post nailed down the save. The Bulldogs will face archrival Greensburg for the sectional championship Monday night after the Pirates bested Jennings County 6-2 in 8 innings. After Greensburg led 2-0 for much of the game, the Panthers tied it to force extra innings. But the Pirates scored four runs in the top of the 8th, all on walks. This will be the third straight year that Batesville and Greensburg will meet with a baseball sectional title on the line.

In other baseball sectional semifinal action last night, North Decatur doubled up Tri 12-6. The Chargers play Waldron in the semifinals at Morristown this evening. Today’s other semifinal at Morristown pits South Decatur against Knightstown. And East Central bested Columbus East 5-1. The Trojans go up against host Columbus North for the sectional crown Monday evening,

Coming up this afternoon, South Ripley plays Austin in the 2A semis on the Raiders’ home diamond.

North Decatur takes on Knightstown in the Class 1A softball sectional final this evenng at Tri. Airtime is 5:15 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.

The Atlanta Braves knocked off the Reds 8-3 in the series opener last night in downtown Cincinnati. The Braves put the game away by scoring four runs in the 6th inning. Atlanta has the best record in baseball at 39-19. The Reds fall to 29-27. The middle game of the series is tonight. First pitch at 7:15. We’ll join the game in progress on 103.9 FM following high school tournament softball.

Before last night’s game, the Reds placed relief pitcher Graham Ashcraft on the 60-day injured list with a right ulnar collateral ligament strain (elbow and forearm area). Right handed pitcher Yunior Marte was called up from Triple-A Louisville to fill Ashcraft’s roster spot.

The Indiana Fever visit the expansion Portland Fire in WNBA action tonight. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.

IndyCar races tomorrow on the streets of Detroit. Kyle Kirkwood is the defending champ.
