Milan Captures Softball Sectional Crown

Thursday at Rising Sun, Milan’s Lady Indians captured the program’s 8th softball sectional championship with a 13-0 win in 6 innings over Trinity Lutheran. It was also Milan’s second straight Sectional 60 title.

Coach Yatzie Roysden’s ladies put up a 5-spot in the 1st inning. Among the 5 hits in the frame was line drive, 2-RBI home run to left by Mallory Eaglin.

After a solo run in the 2nd, the Indian bats were quiet until the 6th. Milan sent 11 batters to the plate and scored 7 runs. Mallory Eaglin, Nevaeh Carpenter and Jillianne Herd all drove in 2.

Milan pitcher Kynadee Bode slung a 5-hit shutout. Among her 8 strikeouts was the 800th of her career. It came against Emmie Whipker in the 5th.

Second ranked Milan, now 29-4, will host a 1A regional on Tuesday, June 2 at 6 pm. The Indians will have to wait until Saturday night to see whom they will play. North Decatur will face Knightstown at 5:30 to determine the Sectional 59 winner at Tri.
