(Batesville, IN) – Carson Meyer tossed a no-hitter in Batesville’s 2-0 win over Lawrenceburg in the nightcap of Thursday evening’s first round IHSAA Sectional 29 baseball action hosted by the Bulldogs.
The sophomore left hander struck out 13 while walking just one Tiger hitter.
The game was scoreless through the first 4 1/2 innings. Lawrenceburg had a good scoring chance in the top of the 4th when Calum May and Luke Kaiser reached on back-to-back Bulldog errors to open the inning. Meyer buckled down and got a strikeout, flyout, and strikeout to get out of the jam.
In the bottom of the 5th, Meyer doubled with 1 out. A ground out to 2nd base by Tiago Batta moved Meyer to 3rd. Jackson Elston came through with a single to left to score Meyer and put the Bulldogs up.
Batesville added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th. With 1 out, Brayden Maple worked a walk. He advanced to 2nd on a ground out. Rylan Yeager hit a slow grounder up the middle that the Tiger shortstop was unable to field cleanly. Maple raced around to score from 2nd on the play.
At 88 pitches, the Bulldogs sent Meyer back out to try to finish the game. He got a flyout to left and back-to-back strikeouts to complete the no-hitter.
Hunter Miller took the hard luck loss for Lawrenceburg, throwing a 6 inning complete game. He allowed just three hits while striking out eight.
