SR 46 Resurfacing Kicks Off June 2 in
Batesville
State Road 46 drivers should expect lane restrictions and possible delays through the end of July as INDOT launches a major milling and repaving project.
(Batesville, IN) — Drivers who use State Road 46 through Batesville should plan for lane restrictions and possible slowdowns starting Tuesday, June 2, when the Indiana Department of Transportation begins a full milling and asphalt overlay project along the corridor.
“At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times.”
— INDOT / City of Batesville
The project, managed by contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc., covers a stretch running from 0.3 miles west of SR 229 — near the Hillcrest Estates area — to 1.1 miles east of SR 129, roughly a quarter mile west of Merkel Road. Work is expected to wrap up by the end of July 2026.
The milling process removes the existing deteriorated pavement surface before fresh asphalt is laid down — a standard INDOT approach to extending road life without a full reconstruction.
