
Dale Foster, age 85, of Greendale, Indiana and a former long-time resident of Brookville, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at his residence following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 12, 1941 in New Castle, Indiana, he was the son of the late Leslie C. & Gladys (Craig) Foster. He was a graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, and went on to play college basketball at Indiana Tech for one year before transferring to University of Cincinnati DAAP Program, where he earned his degree. He was united in marriage to the former Dixie Baldock on November 12, 1960, and she survives.
For 25 years, Dale worked as an Industrial Designer at Hill Rom in Batesville where he acquired numerous patents. His innovative mind led him to obtain three healthcare bed-related patents at the age of 83. In 2016, Dale received the distinguished honor of being named a “Cincinnati Industrial Design Icon” at the Cincinnati Museum of Art.
In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and was a skilled boat builder. He also crafted many wooden cocktail tables, which he shared with family and friends. In 2016, he was awarded “Best in Show” for these tables at the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art.
He and Dixie also enjoyed more than 17 years living in the Florida Keys. Dale spent the last 16 years in Indiana, where he especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to Dixie, his loving wife of nearly 66 years, survivors include three children, Doug Foster of West Harrison, Indiana, Deborah (Mark) McCool of Greendale, Indiana and David (Michelle) Foster of Brookville, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Derrick (Amanda) Foster, Leslie (Adam) Tharp, Lindsey (Skip) Jenkins, Drew (Breanna) Foster, Kaili McCool, Macy McCool, Ashby (Brady) Landrum, Dawson Foster, Mitchell McCool and Kraig Foster; 13 great-grandchild with another one on the way; as well as his faithful furry companion, Izzy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved daughter, Dinah Woelfel who died December 23, 2018, two sisters, Mildred Dillon & Doris Barlow, and a brother, Earle Foster.
Friends may visit from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Creekside Church, 11001 Bossert Road, Brookville.
Pastor Nick Stringer, Pastor Mike Baldock, Pastor Jeba Moses will officiate the Memorial Service at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Creekside Church. Interment will follow in Creekside Cemetery in Klemmes Corner.
