Batesville finished eighth in the 20-plus-team IHSAA track and field regional at Greenfield-Central Tuesday, and three events qualified for next Friday’s state meet.
Ella King was runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 42’9.75″, which was her second best throw of the season.
Maycee Holtkamp took fourth place in the high jump competition with a personal best jump of 5’3.”
Although this is not an automatic qualifier, Batesville coach Lisa Gausman says, according to her calculations, Holtkamp advances to state since this is one of the top 30 jumps in the eight regionals around the state.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Bayleigh Demaree, Caitlin Raver, Jayla Bedel and Ava Wade (pictured) ran their best time of the season at 9:34.30, which was just a second off the school record.
Despite placing fifth in the meet, Gausman says it was one of the next best times among the eight regionals, which allowed them to qualify or the state meet.
The 4 x 800 meter alternates Paige Allgeier, Francesca Myers, Rosie Gilland and Audrey Dieckmann.
Isabel Meyer places sixth in the pole vault with a personal best and new school record vault of 10’3.”
Gausman says other top performances for BHS were:
- Ava Wade-800m run, fifth place
- 4 x 400m relay of Abby Miller, Maggie Jelinek, Bayleigh Demaree and Ava Wade placing seventh place with their second best time of the season. Both Jelinek and Wade ran personal best splits.
- Jayla Bedel-3200m run, placed eighth with her second best time of the season.
The girls state meet will be held at North Central in Indianapolis next Friday.
The boys regional takes place tomorrow (Thursday) night at Greenfield-Central.
