Robert Gaynor

Robert Francis Gaynor, age 93, passed away peacefully May 20, 2026 at his home in Logan, Indiana.  Bob was born October 12, 1932 to Edwin and Alma Gaynor.  He was the oldest of six children and was a brother to Kathleen, Alice, James, Mary Ann, and Thomas.

Family, church, farm, and service defined Bob Gaynor.  Growing up with extended family, he developed a strong work ethic on the family farm, raising cattle, hogs, chickens, and grains.  Bob graduated from Bright High School, and in 1954 was drafted into the Army.  He was deployed to Korea near the end of the war and learned the skills of an electrician. Returning home in 1956, Bob worked at Proctor and Gamble (Miami Valley Labs) in the Maintenance department until his retirement, in addition to helping on the family farm.  His sister Alice introduced Mary Horner to Bob, and soon they were dating.  Bob and Mary were married on October 21, 1961. They were very active at St. John’s Catholic Church in Dover.  Bob was instrumental in readying the parish school for the CCD program.  He was a lector and eucharistic minister, and served on the maintenance and cemetery committees in addition to helping with the annual parish picnics.

Bob and Mary have three children, Robin, Beth, and Jim. They modeled and encouraged daily prayer at home, and each child continued the tradition of volunteering at St. John’s, including serving, music ministry, and food preparation for picnics. Robin and Jim became engineers and Beth became a teacher. Robin married Amy Bopp and they have three children, Johnathon, Morgan, and Caitlyn. Beth married Kevin Emsweller, and Jim married Jill Walker. Bob and Mary enjoyed seeing extended family over the holidays and at reunions.

Mary was called home early in 2025.  Bob continued to live independently in the family home where he valued gardening, fixing fences, and visiting family.  We are grateful for the time we had with Bob, Dad, and Grandpa.
