Debra Sue Adams, age 72 Batesville

Debra Sue Adams (“Debbie”) of Batesville passed away at The Christ Hospital on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Greensburg on January 6, 1954, the daughter of the late Charles and Jewell (Bowles) Croddy. She grew up in New Point and attended North Decatur High School.

In 1969, while walking in New Point with her friends, a shiny red 1969 Dodge Dart caught her eye. Little did she know the gentleman driving it would also win her heart with his big smile and clean shoes. That driver, Ben Adams, became her husband on March 25, 1972, and together they recently celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Debbie’s working career included waitressing at the New Point Truck Stop, but she dedicated 35 years of service to Delta in Greensburg.

Ben and Debbie were blessed with one daughter, Tracy. In 1993, they built a new home where they continued to live together until her passing.

Debbie enjoyed breakfast outings to Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel, tending to her flowers, planting a garden, shopping, and bird watching, especially hummingbirds.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ben; daughter, Tracy (James) Hitchcock; grandchildren, Cody Hitchcock and Chelsea Hitchcock; brother, Billy Croddy; best friend Linda Lohrum; and special friend (niece) Jenny (Mike) Reynolds.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charlie Croddy; and a baby sister.

Private family services and burial will be held at New Salem Cemetery with Pastor Tony Guy officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Napoleon Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
