Janice Elaine Higham Uhlmansiek passed away at 3:15 a.m. at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born on May 4, 1945, in Milan, Indiana, to Carroll and Juanita York Higham and was the oldest of their children.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Sherri Walter (Tracy) of North Carolina; her son, Tim Uhlmansiek (Shelly) of Shelbyville, Indiana; granddaughter Amber Mains; and great-granddaughters Lesleigh Eaton and Daphne Mains, all of North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Sandy Bruce (Norman) of Aurora; sister-in-law Deb Higham of Batesville; brother-in-law Gary LaVelle of Rising Sun; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Uhlmansiek; her sister, Patty LaVelle; her brother, David Higham; and her parents, Carroll Higham and Juanita Vankirk.
Janice retired from Seagram’s after many years of service. She was deeply involved in her community and belonged to the Extension Board, served on the 4-H Fair Board for 40 years, was a women’s leader in Farm Bureau, and was active with the Ohio County Homemakers. Her interests included cooking and baking, angels, birds, butterflies, and flowers.
Visitation will be held at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 4-6 pm with a service to follow at 6 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Dearborn County 4-H and Sparta Baptist Church.
