(Dearborn/Ripley Counties, IN) – INDOT crews plan to begin chip seal operations on State Road 46 in Dearborn and Ripley counties on or after next Wednesday (May 20).
Crews will be active on State Road 46 between State Road 101 near Penntown and State Road 1 near Saint Leon.
State Road 46 will be temporarily shut down while work is in progress.
Access will be maintained for local traffic only.
The work is expected to take up to three days to finish, weather permitting.
During operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and provides waterproof protection.
INDOT says this extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs.
Once the roadway is coated with liquid asphalt, aggregate is applied and excess material is swept from the roadway.
After a curing period, crews will return to fog seal the new driving surface and apply pavement markings under flagging operations.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active work zones.
All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
