Imogene Briggs, 92, of Versailles Indiana entered this life on March 7, 1934 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. She came to rest on Sunday, May 3rd at King’s Daughters Hospital in Madison, Indiana surrounded by family.
She was the loving daughter of Bruce and Mary Francis Willoughby and one of 12 siblings.
Imogene was raised in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and then moved with her family to China, Indiana. She graduated from Central High School in Madison, IN. Imogene
worked at Morton General Store in Pleasant and after relocating to Versailles became the owner of K & I Furniture and Hardware. Later she retired after more than 20 years of employment at Halcomb Home Center.
She was united in marriage to Kenny Morton and was blessed with four children; Linda, Debbie, Robin, and Mark. Kenny preceded her in death in 1991. She was then united in marriage to Robert Briggs who also preceded her in death in 2021.
Imogene was known for her wonderful cooking, sewing, craft skills, and last but not least her wonderful sense of humor which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, making pies,
and creating Christmas crafts. Her spunky personality and wisdom will be missed by those that loved her most.
She is survived by her children: Linda Kelso, Versailles; Debbie (Kevin) Mack, Versailles; Robin Morton, Rexville; Mark (Lisa) Morton, Rising Sun. Grandchildren: Lindsey (Brandon) Seabolt; Casey (Derik) Hutton; Michele Kelso; Chris Kelso; Rusty Kelso. Great-grandchildren: Addison, Kamryn, Cooper Seabolt; Hawk, River, Stone Hutton; Hailey & Austin Miller; John, Jack, Isabella, Chloe Crawford; Tyler, Jasmine, Jessica, Chris Kelso; McKinley & Keenan Kelso along with four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 8th 2026 at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral home in Versailles, IN.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM.
Memorial expressions can be made at the funeral home to Interim Hospice and Palliative Care or Versailles Fire Department.
