Batesville knocked off Milan 5-2 in varsity baseball on Tuesday at the Dawg Pound. Brayden Maple gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over five innings to get the win. Preston Blessing and Ronan Post drove in two runs a piece to lead the Bulldogs offense. The Indians Tommy Poole went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Batesville is back in action tonight at home against Greensburg. Milan hits the road this evening to face Shawe Memorial.

Batesville hosted and won both ends of a quad track and field meet with North Decatur, Hauser and Jac-Cen-Del. It was the Bulldog girls 126; the Chargers 67; the Jets 37, and the Eagles 7. In the boys meet, it was BHS 114; North Decatur 64; Hauser 52, and JCD 7.

Batesville Middle School golf lost both ends of a dual meet on the road against Columbus Central. Bulldog team #1 fell 128-162. Rowan Maple led BMS with a 33. Batesville #2 was defeated 156-196. Landon Jansing fired a 44 to lead the Bulldogs.

The Reds beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 in the series opener last night in downtown Cincinnati in a game heard on WRBI. Cincinnati scored three runs in both the first and the eighth innings. Spencer Steer clubbed a two-run homer in the 1st. Elly De La Cruz added a two-run blast of his own in the 8th. He now has 10 home runs on the season. De La Cruz had two hits, 4 RBIs and 2 stolen bases on the night. He also turned in a couple of stellar defensive plays at shortstop. Chase Burns got the win to run his record to 3-1. Burns gave up seven hits, two earned runs, one walk, and struck out nine in six innings. The middle game of the series is tonight. Lefthander Brandon Williamson gets the start for the Reds. He’s 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA. Airtime is 6:10 on 103.9 FM.

The Reds have placed lefthanded pitcher Caleb Ferguson on rehab assignment at Double-A Chattanooga. He’s been on the injured list with an oblique muscle strain.

A major change is coming to college basketball. According to ESPN, the NCAA has initiated the final steps to expand the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments from 68 teams to 76. The expansion is on track to be formalized in the upcoming weeks and would begin with the 2026-27 season. The start of the tournament, also known as the First Four, will expand to 12 games played by 24 teams. The First Four will remain in Dayton, Ohio, with another site to be added.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was buzzing with cars on the oval for April testing. Drivers and teams are beginning preparations for the Indianapolis 500. 32 of the 33 available cars for this year’s race turned laps on Tuesday. Conor Daly was the fastest overall at 225.394 miles-per-hour. More testing was expected to happen today, weather permitting.
