Batesville golf carded a team score of 342 to finish eighth out of 19 teams at Saturday’s Steve McClure Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Center Grove at Southern Dunes Golf Course in Indianapolis. Landon Raver led the Bulldogs by firing an 81…The Batesville JV golf team came in 10th at the 14-team Jennings County Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs as a team fired a 392. The Milan JV golfers shot a 446.
Batesville track and field had five first place finishes at the Bill Self Invitational hosted by Franklin Community Friday evening. The Bulldogs also notched seven second place finishes, and 25 personal records were broken. In the team standings, the Batesville girls finished second behind the Grizzly Cubs; the BHS boys came in fourth. Batesville’s Jade Martin and James Rowland were presented the Bill Self Service Award, which honors one male and one female athlete from each team.
The Cincinnati Bengals pulled off a blockbuster trade over the weekend that is the talk of the NFL when they acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II from the New York Giants in exchange for Cincinnati’s first-round pick at #10 overall in this week’s NFL Draft. The Bengals also signed Lawrence to a one-year, $28 million contract extension through the 2028 season. The 6-foot-4, 342 pound Lawrence is an eighth-year player who was drafted in the first round by the Giants out of Clemson in 2019. He has played in 109 career regular-season games with 102 starts for New York, totaling 341 tackles; 40 tackles for loss (TFL); 30 1/2 sacks; 15 pass defenses; one interception, and and five forced fumbles. Lawrence also played and started two postseason games, recording six solo stops with a TFL.
Alex Palou took the checkered flag at yesterday’s Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar race in California. It’s Palou’s third win in five races this season.
