Mrs. Mary Jo (Shadday) Brown, age 91, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on March 28, 1935 in Vevay, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Julian H. and Jeanette (Konkle) Brown. She was raised in Vevay, Indiana where she attended school. Mary Jo was united in marriage on December 8, 1961 to Nelson W. Brown in Vevay, Indiana. Mary Jo and Nelson shared 26 years of marriage together until his death on October 14, 1987. Mary Jo was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, for 35 years. She was also a former waitress for Kate’s Diner in Vevay, Indiana. Mary Jo had a deep love for all animals, especially dogs and took great delight in feeding hummingbirds. She enjoyed cooking, tending to her yard, crocheting, shopping, and traveling. Mary Jo took great pride in maintaining a beautiful home and a meticulously kept yard. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved the holidays and enjoyed being the host and gathering in her home, where she cooked for her loved ones, creating lasting memories surrounded by those she held dear. Mary Jo passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at her residence in Vevay, Indiana.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, Peggy Johnson and her husband, Lowell of Greenwood, IN and Andrea “Andi” Hallett of Morgantown, IN; her granddaughters, April Mahoney and her husband, Brian, Stacey Lynn Penick and her husband, Trevis, Alyssa Hallett, Toni Hiers, and Deanna Banker; her great-grandchildren, Meagan Kilborn and her husband, Zack, Brad Wilson and his wife, Josie, Stephanie Mahoney, Keith Mahoney, Emily Hallett, Kaylee Hallett, Lilly King, Colin Grumley, Keira Hendrickson, and Fionna Grumley; her great-great-grandchildren, Masen Kilborn, Zaiden Kilborn, Zoe Wilson, Braedon King, Braelon King, Addison King, and two expected on the way; and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by father, Julian H. Shadday, died February 2, 1988; her mother, Jeanette (Konkle) Shadday, died June 17, 1976; her husband, Nelson W. Brown, died October 14, 1976; her daughter, Linda D. “Winnie” (Peelman) Wilson, died April 17, 2022; her son-in-law, Vernon “Collin” Pruitt, died October 16, 2025; her great-grandson, Colton Keith Penick, died April 22, 2024; her infant sister, Deloris Shadday, died October 16, 1940; her sister, Freda M. Coy, died March 7, 1983, and Bonnie Vernon, died September 18, 2000; her infant brother, Robert Earl Shadday, died September 4, 1939; and her brothers, Dwight H. Shadday, died March 5, 2005, and William D. “Bill” Shadday, died October 21, 2007.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
