(Decatur County, IN) – INDOT says construction for the planned I-74 rehabilitation project in Decatur County will start in a few weeks.
On or after Monday, April 27, crews will begin construction on I-74 between County Road 800 near St. Paul (Exit 123) and County Road 420 following the completion of pre-construction activities.
Initial project construction includes:
- Bridge deck overlays over Mill Creek and Flatrock River
- Asphalt resurfacing and full depth replacement
- Drainage improvements
Motorists can expect the following restrictions on I-74 between mile markers 122 and 128 through early July, weather permitting:
- Eastbound I-74 traffic will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the right lane of eastbound I-74
- Westbound I-74 traffic will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the left lane of eastbound I-74
- All westbound I-74 lanes will be closed (traffic shifted to eastbound I-74)
- The construction speed limit will be 55 mph
INDOT says it will continue to provide additional information and updates as work progresses via INDOT News, Facebook and X .

Overall contract work is expected to be complete in late 2028.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.
All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
