(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County REMC Community Trust Committee recently awarded seven organizations a total of $14,584.50 in Operation Round Up grant funds to support projects that benefit the local community.
Grant recipients include:
• Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp – $2,500 to purchase durable metal bunk beds.
• Special Olympics-Decatur County – $2,500 to cover entry fees and housing for the Summer Games in Terre Haute.
• Wayside Inn Homeless Shelter – $1,000 to purchase personal items for residents.
• Campbell Township Volunteer Fire Department – $2,500 to purchase rope rescue equipment.
• Sand Creek Elementary School – $3,084.50 to purchase Mystery Science kits for classroom use.
• Delaware Community Volunteer Fire Department – $2,500 to update firehouse lighting to LED.
• Charger Baseball Club Inc – $500 to rebuild both dugouts.
“Concern for Community is one of our cooperative principles, and Operation Round Up is a powerful example of members putting that principle into action,” said Amy Ewing of Decatur County REMC. “Each small monthly contribution adds up to meaningful support for organizations that strengthen our communities.”
Operation Round Up is funded entirely by participating members who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bill to the next whole dollar.
Since the program’s launch in 1999, Operation Round Up has awarded 375 grants totaling more than $669,000 to nonprofit organizations and community initiatives throughout the Decatur County REMC service territory.
Nonprofit organizations serving Decatur County REMC members have until July 31 to apply for the next grant cycle.
