Pedestrian Upgrades Coming to SR 229

(Batesville, IN) – INDOT and the City of Batesville say an upcoming pedestrian facility improvement project is set to begin on or after Monday, April 27.

The project will take place on State Road 229 between Franklin Street and Six Pine Ranch Road.

Improvements include the installation of new sidewalks and the rehabilitation of existing pedestrian facilities.

As previously reported on WRBI, north- and southbound State Road 229 will be reduced to one lane.

East- and westbound I-74 will also be down to one lane under the S.R. 229 overpass.

This project is part of a $2.7 million contract awarded to Morphey Construction in July 2025.

The work is expected to be complete in November 2026, weather permitting.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones.

All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
