(Brookville, INI) – Franklin County Ag and Natural Resources Safety Day took place Thursday at the Fairgrounds in Brookville.
Organizers say the event for 3rd and 4th grade students combines fun with education.
David Smith talked to the students about grain safety.
“The grain flowing from the grain bins into trucks, grain coming out of wagons into grain bins…letting them know that flowing grain can become like quicksand and they can stuck and get trapped in it and, unfortunately, we can possibly have a fatality, so we’re just trying to make them aware of their situations,” Smith said.
Ashley Burton with Mulberry Branch Farm instructed the kids about general care for goats and why the animals special.
“Our poster is named ‘G.O.A.T.s on the farm’ which is the greatest of all time because goats are very versatile,” Burton said. “We teach them about their different types of digestive systems and we just teach to them to kind of love andrespect goats.”
Volunteers from local organizations and agencies staffed learning stations and booths at the event.
