(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County United Fund (DCUF) Board of Directors recently awarded a $6,000 grant to Decatur County Community Schools for the 2026 Camp Invention Program.

It’s open to any child entering grades K-6, regardless of school district. United Fund’s support provides need-based scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis to help reduce the cost for families.

Camp Invention is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the future of innovation and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This summer day camp is filled with fun, hands-on STEM adventures led by qualified local educators, designed to spark creativity, build confidence and ignite a lifelong love for learning.

Camp Invention has over 1,500 camp programs run nationwide in schools, community centers and other local facilities; only one per county is offered.

The week-long camp will be held at North Decatur Elementary School at 3300 North State Road 3, June 1-5 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day. Before and after care available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee.

Directed by Linda Smith and staffed by fellow local educators, campers will explore technology while building confidence in their natural ability to dream and create.

This year’s camp has a variety of activities.

With the topic of Fur-ensics, campers build confidence and critical thinking skills as they explore forensic science and the inner mechanics of their adorable take-home robotic capybara.

The Infringers, inspired by real-world STEM superheroes, campers work together to invent creative solutions for challenges in their community and around the world.

Make Waves dives into entrepreneurship, campers design and eye-catching billboard board to hook beachgoers and practice persistence as they discover the science that keeps it afloat.

Space Morphers allows campers to build a DIY rocket and practice problem solving as they grow a dazzling crystal tree and hatch an animal egg in the Space Lab.

“The Decatur County United Fund is a local organization committed to improving the lives of Decatur County individuals by funding programs impacting education, health, and the financial
stability of our community. The funding we raise in our community stays in our community. This is our ninth year providing scholarships for the Camp Invention Program and we are very
excited to make this exceptional educational experience more affordable for children in Decatur County,” said Joane Cunningham, DCUF Executive Director.
