Florence Catherine Alexander, 89

Florence Catherine Alexander, 89, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. She was born the beloved daughter of Harold E. Sallee and Sadie Shoopman Sallee. Florence was a lifelong member of the Greensburg community and attended Greensburg Community High School.
Florence dedicated many years of service to Marsh Supermarket, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind spirit, and the warm smile she shared with everyone she met.
Florence had a sparky, spirited personality that brought joy to those around her. She loved to go to garage sales and never missed the thrill of finding a special treasure. She often traveled to Arizona with her significant other, Jim Bowling. Among her many memories, her favorite trip was the one she took by train, which she often spoke fondly. Florence also had a sweet tooth and especially loved lemon and chocolate pie. She was a proud member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and valued the friendships and community she found there.
She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Rex Alexander; daughter, Stephanie L. Alexander Hummell; brother, Charles Sallee; grandchildren, Summer Lynn and Ryan Haas. Florence was also preceded in death by her significant other, Jim Bowling.
Florence is survived by her children, Teresa Haas of Rushville, IN, Debbie Porter of Greensburg, IN, Damitria Saler of Kentucky, and Richard Alexander, Waldron, IN; her siblings, James (Nancy) Sallee of Greensburg, IN, Steven (Gail) Sallee of West Palm, FL, and Doris Reynolds of New Point, IN; as well as eight grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Wednesday April 1, 2026 from 12:00 pm until the time of funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Paul Hill Cemetery St. Paul, Indiana. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com.
