
She was born on May 20, 1945, in Fenwick, Michigan, the daughter of the late Cecil Niswonger and Helen (Thomas) Williams.
Barbara dedicated many years of her life as a grocery store manager, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly nature. She also found great joy in her involvement with the Hillforest Historical Society, where she enjoyed both working and speaking.
Barbara had a wide range of interests that brought her happiness, including collecting hat pins, antiquing, fishing, basket making, reading, and mushroom hunting. She had a deep appreciation for history, nature, and the simple pleasures of life.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Tracy (Ric) Harves; her son, Richard (Patsy) Kain; her grandchildren, Linsey (Joe) Abplanalp, Adam (Alexah) Harves, Nicholas Harves, and Sarah Kain; and her great-grandchildren, Xander and Harrison Abplanalp. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil “Richard” (Yvonne) Niswonger.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David A. Kain.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Eaton, Indiana.
