Purdue jumped 10 spots to #8 in the final AP Top 25 College Basketball poll before the NCAA Tournament, after the Boilermakers upset Michigan in the Big Ten title game on Sunday. NCAA Tournament overall #1 seed Duke stays on top of the AP rankings, followed by Arizona, Michigan, Florida and Houston. The Wildcats, Wolverines and Gators are also #1 regional seeds.
The NCAA Tourney tips off tonight with the opening games of the First Four in Dayton, Ohio. UMBC takes on Howard, followed by Texas against NC State.
Thad Matta has announced his retirement as Butler men’s basketball coach. He had just finished his fourth season in his second stint as Bulldogs’ head coach. The 58-year-old Matta ends his coaching career with 502 wins and 223 losses and 13 NCAA Tournament appearances during his time at Butler, Xavier and Ohio State. The Bulldogs haven’t made the Tourney since the 2017-18 season. He will remain on staff at Butler as the Special Assistant to the President and Athletic Director.
Indianapolis Colts tight end Mo-Alie-Cox has signed a one-year contract extension with the team, making him one of the longest-tenured players on the roster. Over eight seasons with the Colts, the 32-year-old Alie-Cox has played in 125 games with 53 starts, and recorded 127 catches for 1,550 yards and 16 touchdowns.
