Gary Lee Kunkel, 70, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1955, in Batesville, the son of Clifford and Ruth (née Harmeyer) Kunkel.
Gary was a 1974 graduate of North Decatur High School. He built a successful career as a skilled drywall installer and dedicated construction worker. He was an avid outdoorsman who took great pleasure in gardening, enjoying music, and spending time in nature. Known for his generous spirit and kind heart, Gary was always willing to help others—often giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need—and deeply valued the time he spent with friends and loved ones.
Gary is survived by his son, Skylar Kunkel; brothers: David and Mark (Denise Gaboury) Kunkel; sisters: Carol (Charles) Kramer, Lynne (Phil) Miller, and Angie (Ron) Wood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick Kunkel.
The Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, followed by visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg.
Memorial donations can be made to the Bread of Life or the Decatur County Agape Center.
