Freda Walker

Freda Laverne Walker, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, just one day before her 87th birthday. She was born March 15, 1939, to Clyde and Lottie Poling. On June 1st 1958, Freda married the love of her life, Harry “Tuffy” Walker. Together they built a life centered on family, faithfulness, and hard work. Freda worked throughout her life serving her community at the Switzerland County Courthouse, First National Bank, Rising Sun State Bank, and later at the Grand Victoria Casino before retiring. She and Tuffy built a life around their homestead where they raised tobacco and cattle. Freda took great pride in her home and land. Her house was known for being meticulously clean, and her yard was kept just the way she liked it—so much so that she never hesitated to let people know exactly how it should be mowed. She loved gardening and spent many seasons tending to vegetables and flowers, often canning the abundance she grew to share with family. Freda also cherished the routines that made life special. When she was able, Sunday dinners with family were a treasured tradition, bringing everyone together around the table. She and Tuffy faithfully kept their Friday night date nights, which almost always included a little shopping. She also made sure to keep another standing appointment—getting her hair done every week.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Walker, Leon (Andrea) Walker, and Kimberly (Randy) Jones. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Apriel (Allan Nobbe) Cook, Carrie (Brian) Johns, Jason (Cassie) Walker, Megan (Caleb) Hall, Chad (Kelly) Jones, Jace (Brandi) Lieland, Alec (Victoria) Walker, and Jessilyn Walker. Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Allison, Kyleigh, Jadyn, Austin, Grant, Cameryn, Kendyll, Rilyn, Kingsley, Clayton, Jamison, Jaxon, and Oliver; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ava. She is also survived by her sisters Jane and Eva, as well as several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lottie Poling; her beloved husband, Harry “Tuffy” Walker; and six siblings: Pete Poling, Clyde Robert Poling, Web Poling, Janet McCarty, Francis White, and Connie Peters.

Freda will be remembered for the life she built with steady hands, a strong will, and a deep love for her family. Whether tending her garden, keeping her home just right, or gathering everyone around the table for Sunday dinner, she created a place where family always belonged. The traditions she started, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave will continue to live on through the generations who were blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Great-Great Grandma.
