Ronald R. Francis, 79, of Holton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 14, 1946, in Brockport, New York, he was the son of the late Raymond and Wanda (née Maxwell) Francis.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service—a commitment he regarded as one of the greatest honors of his life. As a helicopter pilot with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, he served in the Vietnam War and earned numerous accolades, including the Navy Achievement Medal (twice), Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Presidential Unit Citation. An expert marksman and avid shooter, Ron’s military experiences shaped his resilient spirit and love for precision.
Following his military career, Ron flew as a pilot for DHL, where his passion for aviation continued to soar. On February 20, 1971, he married his beloved wife, Dale Ann Dupra, who survives him. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and ingenuity. Ron was a true tinkerer who could build or fix just about anything. He channeled this talent into creating the Hoosier Shrimp Farm and even establishing Francis Airport on his property. In his leisure time, he relished fishing and anything related to airplanes, finding joy in the open skies and serene waters.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Dale Ann; son, Eric (Kristy) Francis; daughter, Sherry (Chester) Biddle; granddaughters, Lexi and Callie; and brother, Donald Francis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A short memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with military honors conducted by Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
