(Batesville, IN) – The Batesville Economic Development Commission (EDC) on Friday approved $10,000 to the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce in a shift away from prior tourism funding.

In 2024 and ’25, EDC provided $25,000 annually for tourism.

After reviewing its budget, long-term obligations — including commitments to Margaret Mary Health — and anticipated impacts across Indiana, the board decided not to continue those allocations.

Instead, the $10,000 will fully cover the Chamber’s office rent.

“We are very thankful to receive the $10,000 to continue to fund our visitors center and continue to align that with the city’s comprehensive plan,” said chamber board president Kyle Laker. “We always believe in one team, one mission – that’s a (Batesville) school corporation mantra, but I also believe wholeheartedly with the chamber, Batesville Main Street and the economic development commission, as well, we just need to continue the collaboration and we’re thankful to be able to receive this $10,000 to continue to support our goals of the visitor center.”

EDC president Kevin Campbell released a statement following the vote.

“The EDC remains committed to tourism but will more directly evaluate future investments to ensure measurable economic impact while continuing to support our local Chamber,” Campbell said.

The vote in favor of the $10,000 allocation was 4-0 with one abstention.
