(Batesville, IN) – People from near and far braved the cold and lined up bright and early Thursday outside Schmidt Bakery in Batesville to buy Cherry Thing-A-Lings.
The fritter-type donut filled topped with a cherry glaze are available for in-store purchase between 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day this weekend, including Sunday, through Presidents Day on Monday.
Clem and Bertie Schmidt started what has become a tasty Presidents Day 50 years ago in a nod to the tale of George Washington chopping down a cherry tree.
Last year, 20,808 dozen were sold between pre-orders and in-store purchases.
