Jack William Johnson, 73

Jack William Johnson, 73, of Shelbyville, Indiana passed away on February 5, 2026. He was born on May 4, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of William and Hertha (Manthey) Johnson. Jack was a 1970 graduate of Milan High School and was a 1974 graduate of Indiana Central College (University of Indianapolis). He received a Master of Arts in 1978 from Ball State University. He married Anita Clark Butler on June 28th, 2008 in Jamaica. Jack was a music teacher and band director at the Junior and Senior High Schools of Greensburg Community, Waldron, and East Central. He was a music teacher and band director at North Vernon Junior High School and elementaries. He taught for 39 years and retired in 2016.
Jack loved playing music, playing golf with friends, and was a marathon runner with a running streak extending over 23 years. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Shelbyville.

Jack is survived by his wife Anita Johnson, Step-daughter Raelyn Butler, Sons Chris (wife Jaime) Johnson and Michael (wife Nicole) Johnson, two sisters, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hertha and William Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held at the Greensburg Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a memorial service starting at 6:00 pm with Reverend Andy Lee officiating.
