(Jennings County, IN) – Indiana State Police detectives and the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a North Vernon man in a northern Jennings County house fire on Sunday morning.
At around 7:30 am , the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office received calls of a house on fire in the 4500 Block of North County Road 350 West (Geneva Road), just off of State Road 7 in Queensville in Jennings County.
Deputies from the sheriff’s office as well as officers from the North Vernon Police Department arrived within minutes and attempted to gain access to the smoke filled residence after receiving reports that the home may still be occupied.
Firefighters from the Scipio-Geneva Township Fire Department arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze which was made challenging due to the cold temperatures.
Firefighters soon located the body of an adult male inside the residence. The Jennings County Coroner’s Office arrived and identified the victim as 33-year-old Kody A. Perry, who lived at the home.
ISP detectives and crime scene investigators were called to conduct a joint investigation with detectives from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine the cause of the fire.
The investigation is ongoing.
