(Brookville, IN) – Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies are warning residents of yet another phone scam.
This one involves scammers calling and sometimes spoofing the sheriff’s office phone number and claiming to be deputies, and telling residents they either have a warrant, missed a court hearing, have outstanding fines, or failed to register as a sex offender.
The sheriff’s office urges you not to provide personal or banking information, or send gift cards.
They say no one from the agency will call or ask any form of payment over the phone.
If receive one of these calls, or suspect a call is a scam, you’re urged to hang up and contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 647-4138 and ask to speak with a deputy.
